Aman Tokyo’s Black fashion oriented afternoon tea is a feast for the senses.   The striking handcrafted Japanese black bamboo trays houses Tokyo’s best tea set. Starting with an amuse bouche (edamame mousse and tomato jelly), then an interesting take on the traditional sandwiches with a lemon dill egg with asparagus and charcoal bun roast beef composition, and a generous amount of pastries, including seasonal melon and pumpkin tarts and a Kyoho globe grape chou.  You can have them remove the adzuki beans from the top of the very buttery and symmetrical green tea scones.  They were gracious enough to bring me plain green tea scones on the side. The real stars of the afternoon are the high heel and handbag chocolates.  62% Brazilian cacao heel with lime and caramel filling.  The delicate and precision crafting.  Look at the ornament on the top of the shoe and the delicate shoe straps.   The handbag (with handles) is a dark chocolate masterpiece housing fresh cream with top grade fresh berries.   The chocolate hat with mint …

Business spa-ing @ Conrad Seoul, IFC

I have an approach-avoidance relationship with the the Yeouido area because it is a pain in the butt to drive, walk and find things. But since spas are my calling and Conrad Seoul has one of the best spas in Seoul, I’m there. They have me from the get-go with their Clarins 60 minute Clarins aromatic body treatment and English afternoon tea set.  This promotion is only on weekdays from 1-5pm and you can choose to have treatment first or the tea.  At 165,000 won with taxes in, this is a steal for a 5 star spa and hotel in Seoul!   Conrad Seoul’s spa is bright, airy with 2,000 square feet of spa on the 9th floor of the hotel.  The ceilings are some of the highest I’ve seen in Korea and everything is pristine, new and clean.  My only quibble is you must go down a floor or two to use the ladies room (if you haven’t began your treatment). Sister Spaist’s spa + tea time adventure @ Park Hyatt Busan

It was Sister Spaist’s birthday today and decided to take her down to the city by the sea – Busan.  To the spa (naturally!) and for one of the best afternoon tea sets in all of Korea. Hence, the tea tray calls our famished bellies, all three British high tea tiers of it. Spa-ing is such sweet sorrow. Many plump but plain scones occupy the top tier.  They’re surprisingly addictive when joined with the flanking cream, butter and fresh strawberry preserves. Quibble:  the butter is awfully presented.   It looks like its ready to be spatulaed into a cake blender.  However, the cream is so thick and clotted that it could replace the butter entirely. The sweets take the middle tier.  We have tea cakes made from strawberries in the form of tarts, lemon strawberry cheesecake and some chous.  The obligatory macaroons are there as well. I’ve never really liked the Park Hyatt Busan’s macaroons so didn’t touch them. The sidebar seems to be an afterthought as it comes first with strawberry and chocolate desserts.  The …
