Most spa-able bathroom in Hong Kong: Upper House in Admiralty

I’ve been to all the luxe properties here in Hong Kong and the hotel with the prettiest tub and most Instagram friendly bathroom would have to go to the Upper House. It’s not the fanciest, shiniest bathroom out there but it’s spacious and inviting (quite hard to get big tubs in Hong Kong!).  Giant views that go out for miles of the Peak or a recessed Harbour view.   The only thing I would want is the tubs near the window for a better Harbour selfie shot!  😄 Bathing views from most rooms and suites are spectacular.  They really could lose the shower bathmat as they get absolutely drenched.  Bamboo mat might suit their bathrooms’ aesthetic more. The bathroom toiletries are just…ok but a letdown at this price level and level of hotel sophistication.  Grand Hyatt Fukuoka uses these same REN bottles in their suites.  REN works well enough but you expect something greater at Hong Kong’s most expensive rooms.  I know, I do when everything else is so well done.  Even bigger bottles would seem …

It’s behind room 2 at Grand Hyatt Jakarta

I’m just going to come out and say it.  Don’t spa at the Club Olympus at Grand Hyatt Jakarta.   It’s just awful. I was about to give up finding room 2 in their massive Club Olympus facility until lucking into my “spa” room. It’s most certainly subcontracted out to an outside company because no Hyatt employee would behave the way this therapist did. The therapist should just wear a sign saying paid by the minute because she wants you in and out.  No foot ritual or tea time either.  It’s cheap enough for a luxury hotel but the service was just one star level.  Not enough for Miss Spaist. #timewasted #grandhyattjakarta

My Shangri-la story: not a happy ending with Shangri-la Tokyo

My Shangri-la Tokyo story was one of many well-done treatments, caring therapists, personal gifts of appreciation for Satomi (hands down, the best therapist, in ALL of Tokyo) and a feeling of being at home. not going to be a Happily Ever After… Long story short.  A lot has changed (for the worst) with Shangri-la Tokyo and it always comes back to money. Don’t expect sincere apologies or service recovery.  Just don’t. Maybe the corporate overlords in Hong Kong told Tokyo to turn a profit.  Maybe they just don’t care about us anymore.  Maybe Shangri-la just shouldn’t be sitting at the opulent luxury hotel table. It truly is a shame that CHI spa must suffer a Miss Spaist boycott because of the (in)actions of the Shangri-la Tokyo management team. Luckily for me, Tokyo is a city with many, many other luxury spas and hotels. Tokyo is my Spaing Oyster…

World’s 13 most luxurious spas Hmm, well the article should be relabeled Mandarin Oriental’s most luxurious spa treatments but I am honored to have had many of them :). Next up: MO Shanghai’s MO Spa Dragon and the Phoenix – 2 hour couples romantic bath and couples massage body treatment for moi and Mr. Spaist. MOre details here: “Dragon Phoenix adapts traditional Chinese healing wisdom to the changing season. Represented by red and gold, the mythical creatures, Dragon and Phoenix are often used to characterise the Emperor and Empress, and they symbolise the power of cosmic energy and marital harmony blessed with good luck and prosperity. The Spa’s Dragon Phoenix treatment begins with a welcoming foot ritual and relaxing bath filled with aromatic gold osmanthus and red hawthorn. This is followed by a guasha-inspired couple’s massage using a custom-designed tool made from carnelian gemstone, which is applied to specific energy points to achieve balance and enhance the body’s ability to heal itself.  Guasha is a traditional Chinese therapy of skin scraping that relieves pain and …
